Darts Tips – Aim To Win

These crucial guides are your target aim line and vertical eye line. Before you can use these, you first have to establish which is your dominant eye when throwing darts. This is the eye you use more naturally than the other when throwing darts.

To find out which is your dominant eye, simply stand in front of the board as normal with a dart in your hand and bring it up into position and take aim for the bull. Hold your dart steady and close your left eye, if your dart stays in the same position in your sight line then use your right eye and if the dart seems to jump to the left it means you are using your left eye to aim with.

The TARGET AIM line is the imaginary line from your dominant eye to the target.

The other guide used in the throwing action is the VERTICAL EYE line. This is the imaginary line between the starting point in your ready to throw action and the target aim line. It is sometimes called the dropped vertical eye line. It is very important that the hand holding the dart is exactly underneath the target aim line to ensure the throw is straight. You must also release the dart at some point on the vertical eye line. If you are on either side when you start your throw you will have to compensate and this will give slight variations in your line to the board, therefore making your throw more inconsistent.

If you want more accuracy and consistency in your darts game it is crucial that you not only know about these guides, but also use them as you practice. Above all relax and enjoy your darts practice, that way you will get far more out of it.
